Progression is a wonderful thing

After yesterday mass recoding and restructuring that was taking place, Today I can actually show off something that is useable. The buttons on the edit tab page has small change. So now Image/Video buttons are now merged into one and the code behind deals with it as one item until it tries to deal with the files. Which it then works out if the user has uploaded a video or image and deals with it correctly. Still some work needs to be done on the title, text and youtube at moment. Ideally I would like to be able to merge it into one.

One idea for doing this is giving the user a Textbox for general text and a tick of a checkbox turns it into a title instead of paragraph text. So we would have four buttons
  • Text (supports titles and paragraphs)
  • Image/Video
  • Gallery (for multiple Images)
  • Embedded Video (for users to paste youtube/Vimdeo links etc)
This would be a much nicer and improve what the user can do on the site.

Fixes have come in many forms today one being that the gallery item was not letting users pick more then 2 files. Due to javascript issue this has been resolved. Also I have dropped the moving tab idea using jQuery dialogs. Instead replacing it with a box that is absolute position this means I can have the options out the way of flash which may cause issues.

The design is far from set in stone, I do like the curve CSS3 and the shadow from CSS3 which I am happy not working in other browsers as it would result in just no shadow and no curve and only result is a slightly less attractive interface with no real issues.

Another small tweak to match what I had not looked at in a while was the links on the portfolio. Which I am sure I will ajax up at some point but its at the bottom of the list at the moment. I did some photoshop to turn the icons into nicer png curved boxes as well as when you hover over it will read

"Visit my {site} profile"

So you have links for facebook will read "Visit my facebook profile" Simple improvement but a nice one in case users don't know what the logos are of. Such as less known ones like linkedIn.

Below is a profile for myself I created today in a serious way. Showing just what you could do for a tab page. The example is based around my 3d assignment project and showing the progression of the project with images and galleries with texts explaining it along the way.
